Business Services market: May 2020
Although the Business Services market has slowed, many law firms are still pressing on with business critical hires in key areas
Naturally, over the last few weeks, the number of live Business Services roles within the market has reduced somewhat. However, clients of ours are still pressing on with recruitment in some key areas, particularly within Risk & Compliance, including business critical projects dealing with the embedding of the new SRA Standards and Regulations, as well as strategic considerations such as the outlook for financial crime and regulation.
Legal Technology - with the use of technology within law firms becoming more competitive than ever, some firms are continuing to recruit into this space to improve overall efficiency (agile/remote working, artificial intelligence (AI) and tech innovations - being some of the main highlights). With a relatively small candidate pool of Legal Tech specialists, it seems that a select few firms are taking advantage of a quiet market to secure the very best talent, within this highly competitive area.
We have also seen movement at the senior end of the market, particularly within Project Management and Business Development. Legal Project Management still remains a growth area for many firms across London. Rolling out and managing key operational projects across offices from inception to completion, has certainly not taken a back seat. Documentation of new processes, change management and training are still very much a priority for a number of firms that we are working with. We are working live roles within the Legal Project Management space.
We are also still actively recruiting paralegal roles for clients, particularly for those that have seen an uptick in their workload since the start of current pandemic.
More generally it’s safe to say that the Business Services market has slowed, but many law firms are still keen to replace business critical roles and are still moving forward with a number of project based vacancies, whilst utilising video technology and the ever changing world of virtual on-boarding.
