The year ahead: our Business Services team looks at how firms can enhance their recruitment processes for 2023
"We have seen flexibility surpass even remuneration in terms of importance to our candidates when considering a move."
- The battle to secure the best talent within a candidate led market shows will no doubt continue into 2023 and well beyond and brand is key. For us as recruiters, it is going to be increasingly important to share our insight and knowledge, as well as market our skills as experienced recruiters, to set us apart as sector specialists and engage with legal professionals looking to move. With a lack of active jobseekers generally, and a decline in people using job boards, we will continue to use alternative sourcing strategies, nurture existing relationships and utilise our extensive network of connections, to engage with/pool passive candidates finding the best talent for our law firm clients. With candidates continuing to be in the position to 'take their pick', law firm's must concentrate on building their brand to secure that all important talent. Strong messaging around the USPs of their vision, culture, values and what they stand for as a business when aligned to potential new recruits will clearly differentiate a firm against their competitors.
- Flexibility has become such a key factor for both clients and jobseekers in the market and will continue well into 2023. We have seen flexibility surpass even remuneration in terms of importance to our candidates when considering a move, whether that be; days in the office, starting/finishing times or being able to log-in from abroad whilst travelling. Law firms that can offer the most flexible working environments are able to capture a much broader and more diverse pool of candidates, which has seen them fill vacancies much more efficiently.
- After the hectic nature of 2022, I anticipate a swing back towards a more advisory recruitment style in 2023. We need to work even more closely with both clients and candidates alike in a more strategic capacity which will benefit both. Being industry sector specialists, we are in a great position to advise on the overall state of the legal market; what the hiring trends are, which areas are in demand, where there are talent shortages and how firms are performing generally. We can also advise candidates on longer term career aspirations, and work alongside them to achieve their goals.
